アーティストインレジデンス×高岡で澄む
Artist in Residence with Takaoka de Sumu

　ここ富山県高岡市・山町エリアの文化資源のひとつである高岡市土蔵造りのまち資料館は、伝統建築「土蔵造り」の町家として高岡市指定文化財に指定されており、明治時代から現代までの建築技術や建築空間の使われ方、町民文化を知ることができる場となっています。
　明治33年 (1900年) の大火後に建てられたこの町家に遺された技術、当時の美の概念、山町の人々の幅広い文化活動には感嘆するばかりです。一方、私たちの生活様式は変わりつつあり、また異なる文化的背景を持つ人々が訪れるようになる中で、誰でもこの場所と感情を共有できる＝つながる方法の必要性を感じました。
　その方法の一つとして、私たちはアーティストインレジデンスという形を選択しました。高岡の内外からアーティストを招き、彼らの観点で捉えた山町という町が彼らの思想や哲学に加わり、アートという形で視覚化され共有されます。それらを通じた多様な出会いが資料館へ訪れた人と資料館との間に感情的なつながりを生み、またその過程がこの場に新たな価値を創造することを願います。

　第三期となる今回のレジデンスプログラムは、アーティストグループ「高岡で澄む」の所属アーティストも参加するコラボ企画となります。作品発表は高岡を代表するクラフトイベント「市場街」の期間中に行われます。

【高岡で澄む】
「高岡で澄む」は、富山県高岡市にて発足したアーティストグループです。アーティストは、その土地に住むことで環境や人、文化、食など身の周りの様々なものから影響を受け、作品として生み出す事で心が澄んでいく。そんなサイクルを繰り返しているような気がします。「高岡で澄む」は、そうしてアーティストの心の目を通した土地の魅力や温度感を展覧会として提案していきます。

　また、異なるホームグラウンドを持つアーティストたちが空気を、場を共有しながら制作するだけでなく、高岡の伝統建築、伝統工芸、それらと絡み合うアートについても話し合う場を設けます。レジデンス期間中に生まれた作品と共にどんなディスカッションが生まれるのか、今から楽しみです！

The Takaoka Dozo-zukuri Museum, located in the Yamacho district in Takaoka City, Toyama Prefecture, is one of the cultural resources showcasing the city’s traditional architecture. Designated as a cultural asset by Takaoka City, this museum offers insights into the construction techniques, architectural use of space from the Meiji era to the present, and the local community’s cultural practices. Built after the Great Fire of 1900, this Machiya preserves architectural techniques, beauty concepts of the time, and a remarkable range of cultural activities among Yamacho residents. As our lifestyles evolve and people from diverse cultural backgrounds visit, we need ways to connect everyone to this place and its emotions.
One approach we’ve chosen is through an Artist in Residence program. By inviting artists from both near and far, we aim for them to integrate the town of Yamacho into their thoughts and philosophies, visualizing and sharing it through art. These diverse encounters through art are intended to create emotional connections between visitors and the museum, potentially generating new value within this place.

This fall, we will collaborate with “Takaoka de Sumu.” “Takaoka de Sumu” is a collective of artists inaugurated in Takaoka City who draw inspiration from their surroundings. Immersed in the local environment, culture, and cuisine, these artists channel their experiences into their creations, fostering a serene state of mind. The “Takaoka de Sumu” exhibition showcases the essence and warmth of their homeland as seen through the lens of artistic expression.
Takaoka de Sumu artists will join the residency with other participating artists. All artists work in the same location, although each piece is unique.
The completed works will be shown at an extraordinary exhibition from September 21st (Saturday) to 23rd (Monday). Experience firsthand how each artist interprets the essence of Takaoka through their unique perspectives.

In addition to creating art while sharing the atmosphere and space with artists from diverse backgrounds, we will also set up a forum to discuss Takaoka’s traditional architecture and crafts and the intersection of these with art. We are looking forward to seeing what kind of discussions will emerge alongside the works created during the residency period.
